Civil War Rebel Yell

"The Rebel Yell" by Mort Kunstler. The artwork depicts a battle in which the "Rebel Yell" became a battle cry legend. The Rebel Yell became a uniquely Southern phenomenon. It was an odd mixture - part hunting shout, part hog-call, part excitement, part fear, and part bravado. One Civil War veteran described it as a "penetrating rasping shrieking blood-curdling noise that could be heard for miles." At the battle of Second Manassas the Confederate and Union forces collided in hand-to-hand and face-to-face struggle where the Rebel Yell was most prominent. It was at this battle that General Robert E. Lee gained one of his greatest victories. The excellent print is highlighted by skillful mat cutting that draws attention to the brass crossed rifles like those that would be worn on the cap of a Civil War infantryman. Included also in the picture is an authentic Civil War stamp depicting the Battle of Chancellorsville which was issued June 29, 1995. The oak framed picture, with glass, measures 15 1/2 by 12 1/2. It is matted using three mat colors and has a 1/8 inch cut-out line that highlights everything in the picture.
