Buffalo SoldiersThis picture, by Don Stivers depicts the heroics of the Buffalo Soldiers. Included in the picture are a brass Calvary emblem and a special Buffalo Soldier pin. The pin reads "Buffalo Soldiers, 9th, 10th Horse Calvary." In 1866, Congress created two all African-American Army Calvary regiments (the 9th and 10th). The name "Buffalo Soldiers" was first given the 10th Calvary by Cheyenne and Commanche Indians. Soon it became the official nickname for all the Black Calvary units. Included also in the picture is an authentic Buffalo Soldier stamp which was issued April 22, 1994. The oak framed picture, with glass, measures 15 1/2 by 12 1/2. It is matted using three mat colors and has a 1/8 inch cut-out line that highlights everything in the picture.
