Civil War Breckenridge "Thunder in the Valley""Thunder in the Valley"
An American Civil War collectible, "Thunder in the Valley," by Mort Kunstler. Virginia's virgin Shenandoah Valley changed hands repeatedly during the Civil War. In the spring of 1864, Confederate General John Breckenridge and his troops used field artillery to force the Union forces to retreat. The excellent print is highlighted by skillful mat cutting that draws attention to the brass crossed cannons like those which would be worn on the cap of a Civil War artilleryman. The oak framed picture, with glass, measures 15 1/2 by 12 1/2. It is matted using three mat colors and has a 1/8 inch cut-out line that highlights everything in the picture. The authentic Civil War Centennial Wilderness stamp was issued May 5, 1964.
