
U.S. SeabeesDID YOU KNOW?
The Navy organized the Construction Battalions,
or "CBs," during the first days of 1942 and
the name "Seabees" was quickly adopted to
identify the men of the new organization.
The men were mostly "construction workers"
with specialized building skills. Many were
well over draft age that gave up high paying
war work to enlist. All lived up to their
motto, "Construimus, batuimus - We build, we
fight." More than 325,000 Seabees served in
this vast construction force during World
War II. Today's Seabees number about 11,000
active and 17,000 reserves. This 17 1/2 by 18 1/2 inch hardwood
framed picture matted in 3 colors consists of a
Seabee patch and a Seabee pin. Included is
also a Navy postage stamp issued October 27,
1945. It features Seabee artwork and a Seabee
