U.S. Army #1

DID YOU KNOW? During World War I, America's 4,000,000 foot soldiers came to be called, "Doughboys," Why this nickname? No one knows for sure. There are four theories. First, their food rations consisted of flour and rice rolled into dough balls and cooked over an open flame. Second, they wore brass buttons on their coats shaped like balls of dough. Third, they used a starch-like white clay to give polish to their uniforms, and in rainey weather it turned into a white "doughie" texture. Fourth, in training exercise they marched over deserts of Northern Mexico and sitrred up so much white dust they looked like a baker's apprentice (doughboy) who had covered himself with flour from head to toe. This 18 3/8 inch by 16 1/8 inch hardwood framed picture matted in 3 colors consists of an U.S. Army patch and a brass hat device. Included is also a 3 cent Army stamp (56 years old), 3 other postage stamps picturing the U.S. Army in action in World War II and a maxicard.
