The B-25 Mitchell was an effective twin engine
bomber. It is best known for doing the
impossible. Under the command of Jimmy
Doolittle, sixteen B-25's were launched off
the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet.
Their mission was to fly 650 miles to bomb the
Japanese capital. This was an event the Japanese
people had been assured could not happen.
The Japanese never anticipated the B-25's
ability to fly off the deck of an aircraft
carrier.
