P-38 Lightning AirplaneDID YOU KNOW?
U.S. Naval Intelligence learned of a plane trip
planned for the Japanese Admiral who
mastermined the attack on Pearl Harbor. He
would be traveling on a Japanese bomber. A
squardon of P-38 Lightnings took off with a
mission to intercept and shoot down the
Japanese aircraft before it reached its
destination. Flying close to the water to escape
radar detection, they flew 300 miles hoping their
calculations were close enough to spot the
bomber, which they did, sending it in flames to
the jungle floor below. Because the P-38 was a
difficult plane to fly, only the most skilled
pilots were chosen for the job. This 17 1/2 inch by 15 1/2 inch hardwood framed
picture consists of an Air Force patch, Air
Force wings, three World War II Army Air Corps official
postage stamps (three cent stamp is 55 years odl)
and a maxicard picturing
a P-38 Lightning. Our Price: $56.00
