Navy PT BoatDID YOU KNOW?
PT (Patrol Torpedo) boats of World War II were
often referred to as Mosquito Boats. A crew
consisted of between 14 and 21 men. The total
number of men thought to have served in all
aspects of PT operations numbered between
60,000-64,000. Of the 602 PT boats built, 69
were destroyed by enemy fire and another 43
were lost due to accidents, friendly fire,
groundings or sea conditions. Of the total
boats built, only about 18 are known to
remain. These are in museums or in various
stages of restoration. At the end of the war,
121 of the decommissioned PT's stationed in
the Philipines were considered too expensive
to maintain and were set on fire and destroyed. This 18 3/4 inch by 16 inch hardwood framed picture is matted in 3 colors and consists of a U.S. Navy patch and a PT patch. Included is a 3 cent navy stamp issued October 27, 1945, and three 29 cent US Navy stamps selected from the World War II stamp issue. Pictured on the maxicard is a picture of the Walt Disney Mosquito Boat
emblem and a PT boat in action. Our Price: $56.00
