Shell Oil CompanyDID YOU KNOW?As service stations grew in
number to become a part of America's drive-in
culture, marketers opted for more sophisticated
unusual structures. Different methods were
used to attract customers. Some opted to build
an attraction more than a station, a place
where people would want to stop and shop.
One such station was built in the shape of
the Spirit of St. Louis, Charles Lindberg's
famous airplane. Other stations were built
to resemble pyramids, tepees, medieval
castles, windmills, dianasours, and Spanish
galleons. Some of these old stations have
been restored and preserved as historical
sites. If you visit Winston-Salem, NC, you
will see a huge building in the shape of a
shell with 2 pumps out front. The design of
the station left no doubt that it was a Shell
Gas Station. Another place to visit is
King City, MO. In this town can be found a
30 foot tall station shaped like a gasoline
pump. Framed in hardwood, the picture measures
16 1/4 x 15 3/4 inches. Three different mat
colors add to the picture's appearance. Included
in this picture is an art print of a Shell
station, a Shell patch, a Commerative
Cover and a 4 cent petroleum industry
stamp issued August 27, 1959.Our Price: $56.00
